Lighthouse Labs is a Canadian educational organization that specializes in coding and technology training. It offers immersive bootcamp-style programs in software development, data science, and web development which are designed to equip students with the skills needed for a career in tech.
The organization operates campuses in several cities across Canada, including Toronto, Vancouver, and Victoria, and has expanded its reach through online learning platforms.
Lighthouse Labs wanted to create valuable content that guides prospective students in choosing their software development or cybersecurity content. They wanted to persuade consumers to take action by enrolling in their training programs.
The main target audience includes individuals who are ready to transition into tech, whether they're recent graduates seeking career direction, professionals looking to switch industries, or those aiming to upskill and advance within their current roles.
The challenge here was to attract the right audience to subscribe to their cybersecurity and software development programs. As a member of the content team, I had to reach our target audience with informative content that shows how Lighthouse Labs bootcamps can uniquely support their tech career goals.
My initial step was to understand what LHL aims to achieve with its content and how it can stand out among other tech education platforms. This led me to identify opportunities for creating value-driven content that would resonate specifically with Canadian tech enthusiasts and prospective students.
By examining competitor content in the coding bootcamp space, I identified gaps where Lighthouse Labs could shine. For instance, while many tech platforms discuss general coding trends, few focus on Canadian-specific insights or on how bootcamp graduates navigate the Canadian job market.
For example, this article ranked #5 for tech job market Canada because it had research-driven insights on the Canadian job market from Canadian sources.
Since this article is Top of the Funnel (TOFU) content, it aims to raise awareness among readers who are just beginning to explore cybersecurity as a career. To generate traffic and provide valuable guidance, the content needs to show cybersecurity as a viable career path.
Expert-led content builds credibility because readers are more likely to trust information from people with hands-on experience and proven expertise. In my article on Is Cybersecurity A Good Career Choice?—I included quotes from industry veterans like Steve Tcherchian (CPO at XYPRO) and Helen Oakley (Product Security Architect at SAP) to give readers unique and experience-based advice. I also included insights from Cybersecurity Analyst Meenu Bhardwaj, who completed the Cybersecurity Bootcamp at Lighthouse Labs.
To reach our target audience, we targeted strategic keywords that resonate with those exploring tech education and career pathways. I understand that intentional keyword placement can help secure strong rankings in search results, so I placed relevant keywords and phrases in titles, headings, and descriptions.
Intentional keyword placement in titles, headings, and descriptions helped secure strong rankings in search results for the following:
“How Bootcamps Bridge the Tech Skills Gap”
“Rank #1 “how bootcamps bridge the tech skills gap”
“Mental Health In Cybersecurity: Building Trust By Recognizing Systemic Issues”
“Rank #2 “for mental health in cyber security”
Is Cybersecurity a Good Career Choice?
“Rank #4 - is cyber security a good career choice?”
“Rank #8 - is cyber security a good career?”
My goal was to create informative and research-backed content that made it easy for readers to understand the message, as they skim the article.
That's why I dive into the latest data, offering clear insights that make complex topics easy to understand. For example, my article on Tech Job Market in 2024 “Rank #4 - tech job market in Canada” has insights and statistics in every paragraph.
The numbers aren’t just there for show—it’s a guide through the current job market that breaks down everything from tech demand to emerging trends.
Traditional technology education can sometimes feel like a blur of code and theories, making it hard to see its direct connection to an actual role in the real-world. Lighthouse Labs’ approach is to offer practical lessons and project simulated real-world scenarios to prepare learners for the job market from day one.
My role at Lighthouse Labs was to convey that the tech bootcamps offer actionable, hands-on lessons that bridge the gap from “learning” to “doing”. For example, my article on How bootcamps bridge the tech skills gap (Rank #1) explores how bootcamps offer hands-on experience and specialized training that will help students acquire the skills employers are looking for. It also included brief accounts from Canadian students that have taken the program and successfully transitioned into a tech role.
